So, that's how they do it

The gimp wonders if she will ever recover from the trauma of last Wednesday. The five of us, who went to Jerusalem on scooters last August were invited to a one day conference hosted by the Department of Social Work at the local college. Four of us decided to go. We rode our scooters up there along the 'student's walking path' and arrived a just in time to be greeted by a guest lecturer from Boston University who had pictures of Martin Luther King and the Sail Eared Psycopath on a screen. MLK, ok, but the other one? This guy's lecture was ostensibly about the history of social/civil rights struggles. Again. MLK ok, but the other one? Except for being the first African(emphasis on African) American to be elected to the Presidency, by possibly questionable means, hasn't exactly contributed anything to the civil righs movement.
What I took away from this guy's 'history lesson' was that they way these guys get new recruits is by getting to a group of bright, young, idealistic, people who want nothing more than to 'help' those less fortunate than them.................and they do it by selling their own perverted version of history. They twist facts to fit their world view, and hope and pray that someone like me, who was actually there for most of the more recent events doesn't show up. Now, they've gone international. Pun intended.Thing is, it's pretty much a waste of time here, in Israel, as we already have a solid socialist base, and our do gooders tend to be lefties in any event. During the break after the BU guy's lecture, I entertained the other gimps who there, and a few students with the correct version of events and explained the differences between the U.S. and Israel in relation as to how the respective governments are supposed to work. And that Obummer was not elected King of The World, and that all the socio babble sounds very nice and moral, but, is nothing more than a way to control large populations, and accrue power.
I did manage to get a few to think and ask good questions, at least among themselves.
So, that's how they do it. They brainwash young innocent idealists.
Can anyone say Acorn with a straight face?

Catch up isn't as easy as it seems

The gimp wonders if she will ever get caught up here. For my three loyal readers, who don't know, I was very ill from the beginning of August until about two weeks ago. All I'll say about it here, is, beware, very wary, of coumadin. For the highlight of the illness, please go Gimp House. The messy details are there.
I am upset about something that was on the news last night, so I'll start there, which is kind of at the end, and as my strength returns, I'll go back to where I left off before I got sick.
An announcement was made yesterday that Israel is willing to turn the Alawi village of Ager over to Lebanon. That's an interesting little village. Before the Six Day War it was part of Syria. During that war, the villagers asked to become part of Israel, and their request was granted. Then, after that jerk Ehid Barak turned tail and scarpered from Southern Lebanon in 2000, and allowed the UN to decide the international border between Lebanon and Israel, the northern half of the village was assigned to Lebanon, even though IT HAD NEVER BEEN PART OF LEBANON. For some strange reason the Syrians never said a word about it. Worse yet, no one asked the villagers themselves which country they want to be part of. Now, it seems that it is going to handed over to Lebanon with absolutely no regard of what they want. There is something very wrong with that. It's not like we need that village. Not a few of the villagers are drug runners, and engaged in other criminal activities. Personally, I'm rather fond of them. The contractor who renovated my housing authority apartment was from there, and I held four of them hostage in Gimp House until they fixed a mistake they'd made. I just locked the door, sat in front of it and refused to open it until they got it right. No amount of begging, pleading, explanations that it was the eve of one of their holidays helped. They remained my hostages until they got it right! And now they want to turn those poor people into Lebanese, when they would prefer to remain Israelis, without even asking them. They kind of made their decision in 1967, but who cares what they want? For all anyone knows, they might prefer to be held hostage in Gimp House.
Ok, that's it for today. I'll try to be better about posting in the future as I get stronger.

Our Brave Defender

The gimp wonders if her three faithful readers realize how safe they are with our very own Bobbie guarding our Constitutional rights. A few days ago we had an e mail exchange on the very subject. I recommended that she stock pile ammunition for her gun. She replied that the only gun she has much practical experience with is a caulking gun. She then informed me that she had to cut our exchange short as she had an illegal alien cornered in her car port and she had to rush out and duct tape him to the supports and keep him covered with her weapons of mass construction until Sherrif Joe could send a posse to relieve her. Goshawk was kind enough to create this picture of our very own Bobbie. Uh, would you want to run into her in a dark carport?

Now, on to the answer to the question that got all this started in the first place. She asked me what Israelis think of Obumbler. In order to answer that, some things about Israel have to be explained first.
Israel does not have anything even remotely resembling a Constitution, and is pretty much unabashedly socialistic in nature, thanks to the founding immigrants who came from Russia at around the time of the revolution and became the leaders of the Jewish settlers here. They soon realized that  modified Socialism and Judaism are a pretty good fit. They set up the Histadrut as a quasi pre state self governing entity which would own a bank, health clinics, bus cooperatives and many other companies. That is probably the reason that there was a system in place and ready to go the minute Statehood was declared. The Knesset and government were comprised mostly of Histadrut leaders until the first elections were held. There were some religious party leaders and Begin, of course. But the real power was with those who had had the foresight to set things up so they would have the power. Today the Histadrut is barely somewhat more than just a union. They do still own a national chain of high schools, a health clinic chain, and a few other things. There was even a time not that long ago when, if someone wanted a job they had to be a member of the Histadrut, belong to that health plan and have an account in that bank. As time moved on, those requirements were changed to being valid only for those who wanted to work in Histadrut owned enterprises. I am proud to say that I brought about the change in that. But that's a story for another day. How The Gimp Brought the Strongest Union to It's Knees in One Night! Back on subject, it's pretty hard for the average Israeli to understand what all the fuss about Socialism in America is about. They know very little about the provisions of The Constution, the health care system here is very good, so, they just don't get it. Their own experience in a semi socialist country makes Obumbler sound perfectly reasonable to them.  Even the media don't get it. Some of their diatribes against the second amendment make me want to scream. Most Israelis still haven't really figured out what having Obumbler, HillBilly and Mitchell meddling over here will mean. Bibi Netanyahu does get it. After all, he pretty much grew up over there. He knows just how bad the new administration could be for us. It will take a lot longer for the average Israeli to figure it out, even though some are even now.
Oh dear. I completely forgot to answer Bobbie's first question and got carried away with the second. Israelis are not at all pleased with Obumbler's recent moves in the area. It looks like utter stupidity to most of to announce that he is going to bring lasting (or any other kind) peace by talking. It just doesn't work that way over here. It's not going to be pretty watching him learn the hard way that he couldn't be more wrong and that Israel is not the problem. Giving the Gazans millions of dollars to rebuild after the last go around with them is the dumbest thing he could do. Is he really going to be surprised when not one building is repaired, and all the money has gone to Hamass leader's bank accounts. That is exactly what will happen. The so called Palestinians do not want better lives for their people. If they did, they would have had a thriving State long ago. It really is that simple.
A good example is the rocket that landed in a high school in Ashkelon today. Had it been any other day of the week, the results would have been many dead and more injured. Ok, they know school is out on Saturdays, but those are not guided missiles they are shooting. They have no idea where they will land. They just point them in the general direction and fire them. They could as easily have hit a full synagogue. Of course, now that they know the rocket hit a school, they can try to repeat their success on a school day with devasting results.

Can't you control your own traitors?

The gimp wonders why America has so much trouble keeping her traitors away from other countries.
J. Ketchup Kerry, is once again meddling in things that are non of his bussiness. Foreign policy is not his domain. Senator or not, he has absolutely no business sticking his nose into our affairs, nor should he be talking with the area terrorists. The jerk should have been tried for treason back when he did irrepareable damage to the U. S. in Paris over Viet Nam. Would you guys please please keep him on your side of the pond, if you can't put him behind bars, where he belongs? Why is he doing HillBilly's job over here? I thought Obummer was going to give us his personal attention. Not that he would be any better. But at least it's in his job description. Just what we need. Carter, Mitchell and Ketchup man meddling in this area, all at the same time. Heaven help us. Bibi has quite enough on his plate without having to deal with that unholy trio. Those pictures of Ketchup man sitting with Assad Jr. were sickening. And on the same day that the hizzbullies or their proxies shot katyushas that injured two people. They shot two, but one fell on their side of the border. They only fired them after getting permission from Nassrallah and Assad. No one does anything in Lebanon without permission from above. And there sat Kerry Ketchup with the man who ultimately gave the go ahead.
For those of you who thought I was nuts (I may well be, but that's another issue entirely), it hasn't stopped raining since Peres gave Bibi the task of putting together a coalition. And the weather folks don't see an end to rain any time soon. So, there you have it!
Unfortunately, our press seems to caught the leftitis that is rampant among your media types and are doing their best to make things difficult for Netanyahu. Can't you come up with a cure, or at least a treatment for that terminal disease?

The Day After

The gimp wonders how all the talking heads and that Livni woman missed the obvious. Maybe they have caught the same disease the American Democtrats came down with after the 2006 mid term elections; missunderstanding resultsitis.
The Likud and Kadima are in a virtual tie for first place. Likud won 28 seats while Kadima got 29. The part of the message they missing is that the Israeli voters did not vote overwhelmingly for Kadima. We did say loud and clear to take a hard right turn.  Both parties have forgotten that the 'soldiers votes' have yet to be counted and added to the total.  There is a possibility that their votes could add to the Likud and other right of center parties, as they have traditionally been a little right od center. Netanyahu can put together a coalition without Livni. She can't without him for the simple reason that Avigdor (Yvette) Lieberman's party came in a solid third while Barak and the 'Slave' Party(Labor) crashed. One tiny fly in the ointment is that Peres has to assign either Netanyahu ot Livni the task of putting together the coalition. He is supposed to give that job to the party head that has the best chance of putting a coalition together in the shortest time. Unfortunately, the man is nothing if not a trouble maker and we really don't have time to play to games. It is possible, however, that he will give Bibi the go ahead if enough of the parties let him know that they are joining Netanyahu.
I can already see world leaders pushing for Livni because she seems more reasonable and willing to make suicidal concessions. She can't get a coalition together because the left leaning parties crash landed hard. Netanyahu can put a coalition together of 65 members right now. Lieberman is already flexing his muscles after coming in as the third strongest party with 15. He's saying that he's not in Bibi's pocket. Fine. Nobody wants him in anyone's pocket. We want him in Bibi's government.  He has already had one bad experience with Kadima. He joined their coalition in the hopes of changing things from inside. That experiment pretty much blew up in his face and he finally left the government and went back to the opposition. They all thought they could drag him leftwards. All they managed to do was entrench him more solidly in the right. He'll go with Bibi if he doesn't make so many demands that Bibi can't afford him. I think the man is smarter than that.
After a long night without my interweb connection, I'm letting myself feel a little hope. It will be ok if they just realize that Kadima did not win by anything that resembles a clear cut victory and that the Israeli voters clearly showed that they(we) want a hard right  turn.
The center-leaning left has proven useless, and now it's *our* turn.
Yup. Cautiously optimistic. That's the gimp this morning as she wonders if it will turn out the way it should.

It's election day!!

The gimp wonders if we have learned anything from previous elections. Last time around Kadima won with Olmert at the head of the list. His whole platform consisted of one single idiotic plank. That was that Olmert was Sharon's number two man. That should have been enough to give a resounding loss, but, Israelis still hadn't figured out just how devastating Sharon's pull out from Gaza would be. They also seemed to forget the outright lies he (Sharon) told to get elected while still in the Likud party. He promised to hold a citizen's referendum before any pullout from Gaza, then amended that to a promise that he would abide by what the Likud's central committee desided. Then, without holding a referendum and going against his own party's decision, he went ahead and up rooted all the Jewish families who had made lives in Gaza. Then, he broke away from Likud and founded Kadima taking the worst of Likud's MKs with him, among them Olmert, Livni, and others, who along with Olmert were and still are under Police investigation for a wide array of criminal activities.
By morning we will know if we have learned our lesson.
Just about everyone who knows me has heard my tirade about weather. I firmly believe that when Israel does what she is supposed to do, G-d rewards us with appropriate weather. In 2006, during the war with the Hizzbullies in Lebanon the weather was noticeably mild for the middle of July into August. The very minute we signed a bad agreement and in effect lost that 'war', the temperatures soared and it was miserably hot. Now, during the Gaza to do, the rain held off and made it easier to manuever in Gaza. The rain has still held off even though we are in desperate need of it. Therefore, according to my Theory of Weather, if we vote the right party in, we will get all the rain we need by summer. If not, the drought will continue. I am more than willing to deal with nonstop rain under those conditions. If we mess it up we are doomed either way.

Congress and Illegal Aliens

The gimp wonders why everyone is so upset with Congress over the illegal alien issue these days. Fox News has a series of special programing for their overseas viewers so we won't get jealous watching ads for things we can't buy here. They have been running one lately that shows that less illegals are coming in these days and that some are even leaving due to the economic situation. The credit for that should go to the post 2004 demoncRat congress, shouldn't it? The scary thing is that if this economic stimulous thing could reverse the situation. It seems from their regular reporting that illegals are taking American jobs for less money. Confusing to say the least. I do wonder though. One thing I do know is that I would rather see the commercials for stuff I can't buy than the stuff they give us overseas viewers.

Those Hamasses

The gimp wonders why those brave 'freedom fighters' in Hamass have such a hard time grasping the meaning of a two word concept. They only seem to understand the second word in cease fire. They keep on firing and totally ignore the cease part. On second thought, I do get it now. The cease part is for us and the fire part is for them! See? It really is simple.
It's been sort of fun watching them all claim that they won the last go around in Gaza. They sure are acting like big winners. They cover their faces with their kefiyahs so no one can identify them and tell all the reporters how many civilians we killed. They kind of forget to mention that those poor people were killed because the brave Hamass fighters turned them into human shields and in many cases wore civilian clothes themselves so they would be counted as civilian casualties. Let us also not forget that used homes, schools and other public buildings as firing sites and weapons and amunition stores. It was quite amusing to watch their leaders scamper back to their hiding places after they starting shooting again.
I suppose that in a way they did win the last go around in a perverted way. We stopped before we should have.
While I have no great desire to take back Gaza, I do think that maybe we should have, if only to rid that cursed strip of land of Hamass. I my ideal world, a coalition of 'neutral' countries could then take over the administration of Gaza and start to rebuild it and show the people there that there is a better way to manage their lives than being held hostage to a gang of terrorists that robs them blind. UNRA has been taken over by Hamass and most of the humanitarian aid that has been delivered has gone directly to Hamass warehouses rather than to the people. They demand that we open the crossings so they can bring in more and better weapons right in our faces. They wasted no time at all getting their tunnels back into operation for the same purpose, and even invited the correspondent from Fox News to cover the  grand reopening of the tunnels.
They refuse to understand that if they would just stop trying to get rid of us, we would do everything in our power to help them get on their feet and on the path to a successful economy and better conditions for their people. Or maybe they do understand it and want to keep their people subservient to them. Freedom and any form of democracy is poison to them.
They have never done so much as one single thing to improve the lives of their people. The other Arab countries have kept them in 'camps' to use as either cannon fodder or bargaining chips. We, on the other hand, took in the refugees from WWII and Arab countries, and built a country for and of it's immigrants in just 60 years. The only thing they have accomplished in those 60 years is to becoming master terrorists. Hamass and the PLO (Fatah) both. They are aided and abetted by Syria and Iran, and by lie and coersion, the rest of the world.
And that Obummer guy wants to 'talk' with them. Yeah, right. He thinks he can Hope and Change them out of their homicidal ways?

Thanks Ever So Much

The Gimp wonders if Nassrallah really wants to go there with me. The sirens went off a few minutes ago, and who should appear at my door just as I was bringing in Pagasus, the chicken Keeshond in? None other than my upstairs neighbor, all white and shaking. She wanted to wait it out in my libbery/shelter, so, I very graciously let her in, opened the libbery/shelter, gave her water, and was in general very nice to her. Poor thing was shaking like a leaf and white as a ghost. With all the hub bub of getting the dog in, opening the room and shoving the recliner to a spot where it could be used, we didn't hear anything hit. I called my favorite reporter and he told me there were three hits in open areas. It was about 20 minutes until anything came up on TV. I offered her my phone to call one of her 10 grown kids. Poor dear doesn't know the numbers by heart. After a few minutes I heard someone yelling Mom Mom from the stairs, so I yelled to him that she's here. He was so relieved. He brought her her mobile phone and the breakfast she'd abandonned on the table.
I still think this might be an isolated incident, but who knows? Now we are being entertained by the sound of our own artillery! Just to add to the cacophony, I have the TV in my room on high volume because I can't find the remotes to the TV in the liberry/shelter. I'll hunt them out later.

So, I was wrong!

The gimp wonders how she got it so wrong, well, not completely, but partly. One of the piece (of Israel) groups in Lebanon just shot some katyushas at northern Israel ove in the west. Due to the reasons I already explained, I don't think the hizzbullies will be taking credit for it so as not to bring the wrath of an already angry Israel on Lebanon. There were a few people who were taken to hospital with severe anxiety, but no major injuries. It's easier to fire from the west because there are several 'refugee' camps there and the hizzbullies can blame them.
We, in the east might not get hit as they would not be able to deny doing it themselves. In any vent there are already planes flying along the border. It will be an interesting day, to say the least! But, the gimp is ready!
UDATE:
One of this morning's katyushas landed on an old folks home in Nahariya. Thankfully the old dears were all in the dining room for breakfast so no was really injured. The hizzbullies denied shooting the rockets and pointed an accusing finger at Abu Nidal's crew, who everyone knows would not have dared shoot with out the 'go ahead' from the hizzbullies. It seems that the Lebanese Army is moving down south to prevent any repitions. The building itself was declared unstable so everyone was evacuated.
Lets see; so far the hamasses and Abu Nidal gangs have hit a kindergarten, a high school, and an Old Dears Home. Not bad for weapons that can't really be aimed or guided. Thankfully all those places were empty.
That 3 hour daily truce for hamass to get humanitarian supplies? They are still shooting rockets. Insanity, Middle Eastern style.

No Katyushas for us this time

The gimp wonders why she didn't figure it out sooner. The whole of the Israeli border area is waiting for the hizzbullies to start shoouting at us like Achmedinajar said they would. I don't think it's going to happen. Of course, having said that, they'll likely start shooting within the hour. Nothing like tempting fate.
They will sit this one out because they are now a 'legitimate' part of the Lebanese government rather than just a terrorist militia supported entirely by Iran and Syria. Syria has them right where it wants them. So, if they do as that Iranian turban head tells them to do, we would have every right to treat it as agression by Lebanon, not a bunch of terrorists. And that means we could go after Lebanese infrastructure and make life in Lebanon a misery for the people there. The last thing the hizzbullies need is to get the people mad at them for picking a fight with us over the hamass.
Their beloved leader Nasrallah is broadcasting nightly tirades to large crowds of his worshiping followers from his bunker (I think it's under a hospital in the Docha neighborhood) but he's not screaming threats at us.
Speaking of bunkers under hospitals, it was mentioned that hamass leaders are most likely in a bunker of their own under the main hospital in Gaza. That is what they do. Hide among, under, in the midst of, non combatants, so having a bunker under a hospital makes perfect sense. It's the one place we will never bomb. They were so indignant in their denial that I'm still giggling at the memory.
So, no katyushas this time. The gimp can live with that.

The Great Gaza Cook Off

The Gimp wonders how it is that the so called Palestinians can get away with blatent bald faced lies. I had the great misfortune to wake up to an interview with Hanan Ashrawi (possibly the ugliest woman in the world) and she was going on about us bombing mosques with innocent worshippers inside, and even went so far as to deny that any mosque has ever been used to store weapons and/or ammunition. Um, excuse me, Ms. Ugly Liar Woman(?), just what were those secondary explosions if nor ammunition cooking off? Do they really think that people are that blind and stupid. (I'm sure some are begging to be blinded after seeing her). The news footage is chock full of secondary explosions. You can bet that there will not be a mosque in all of Gaza that isn't chock full of " innocent worshippers" from now on.
Then there's their news coverage of events. They don't tell their people what to do during an air raid. They get that from our TV! What they do tell them is lies about our casualties. They are claiming hundreds, when in fact, there are 30 injured. Every other word that comes out of their mouths is a lie. There is something very wrong about 'leaders' who make their people live in squalor and lie to them about what is going on while not telling them how to best protect themselves. It really is too much.

The Wheel is Round

The gimp wonders how much longer Kiryat Shmonah will be a safe haven for the good people of Sderot, Ashkelon, Asdod and the area kibbutzim. I find it somewhat ironic that we, who hold the world record for having had the largest number of rockets shot at us, (over 5000) since the late 1960s are now providing safety to so many from the south. My across the foot path neighbors are hosting a family from Ashkelon, and I know others with whole families from Sderot. No one misses the irony.
The hizzbullies have never hesitated to take advantage of an opportunity to shoot katyushas at us before, so I wonder what they are up to. Are Syria and Iran holding them back? Are they planning to use the tunnels they've dug to pop up on our side of the border to over run us? I actually know people who can hear them digging under their houses. Are they waiting for us to go in by land? Were they scared by the ferocity of our attack on Hamas? I rather doubt the latter is their reason for holding back. Speculation is rife in town and everyone is an expert. That is only to be expected as many have had 30+ years of experience with the hizzbullies and their katyushas. My guess is that the wheel has to go a little further around.
Watching the goings on in Gaza on the TV while not being in the thick of flying rockets is a new experience. It's almost fun to watch the weapons and ammunition they've hidden in civilian areas and even a mosque cook off. It is also interesting to note that poor deprived people of Gaza look quite well fed in spite of all the wailing that Israel is trying to starve them. Far from it. We are allowing shipments of food, medicine, and even ambulances (that they have been known to use to transport rockets and their launchers, (among other non medical emergency items) to move into Gaza. We haven't even cut off the electricity we supply them with.
Yet, we struck with disproportionate force.
I would also like to know if any other army has ever at any time phoned a targeted building to tell the noncombatants they are about to be hit, only to have them bravely run to the roof top to act as human shields. What does the evil IAF do in that case? No, they don't bomb the building anyway, which they certainly would be entitled to do after warning the shields by phone. Instead a small pinpoint mini bomb is aimed at a corner of the roof and the pilots wait until the ever so brave human shields scarper to safety. How's that for ruthless?
And yet, in spite of all this, we are in the wrong. Ok, there are a few countries that feel that we are well within our rights, in fact, obliged to fight back in order to protect our citizens, but, then, there's those bright bulbs at the State Department and UN who are trying to get the inSecurity Council to pass a resolution denouncing Israel's use of force against a terrorist entity. Huhn? I don't think so.
I wish I could trust our government to see this through to the proper end, but I don't. It's all politics as usual and they are talking cease fire. That's one language they should forget immediately. Any cease fire is a solid victory for Hamas and a resounding defeat for us. Even if Hamas were to allow observers from the EU or UN, they would be as impotent as Olmert. The arms smuggling would continue right under their noses as it did in Southern Lebanon and no part of Israel would be out of range of their rockets. No, the only option is to finish off Hamas. That will be the only deterent to the hizzbullies. The gimp is ready for just about anything. I have a full tank in the car, a stockpile of cigarettes, a good supply of water, and my usual disdain of katyushas. I'm ready for the long haul.

HERE WE GO AGAIN

The gimp wonders when the first katyusha will hit. After the Lebanese Army found some all lined up and preset to be shot at  between 2200, and 2230 the other night, it is a just a question of when, not if.
As I was doing my usual Saturday interweb stuff a news thing popped up announcing that we had bombed Gaza.
It's been obvious to me for quite a while that it would happen eventually. Hamas really has been playing with fire by shooting hundreds of rockets at us even when they were supposedly under a cease fire agreement. Did they really think that we just sit back and let them continue forever? Maybe they did delude themselves into believing they could continue indefinately with impunity. But even the Livni-Barak cabal realized they had to do something. Elections are coming up, and if they can manage to stop the rocket fire from Gaza tey just might have found an effective way to prevent Netanyahu from becoming our next PM. The major drawback for those two is that Olmert is still calling the shots even though he has no moral or other justification to remain in office. If he is allowed to let this be run as badly as the war with the Hizballa in 2006, he will be handing the election to Netanyhu on a silver platter.
I would not put this past him as he desperately does not Livni to take over from him but as things stand now, she will lose. On the other hand he can not appear to want her to lose. All he can do is set her up to make a hash of the Gaza incursion. He is very good at that kind of thing.
The Hizzballa, being another client of Iran will not sit quietly by while we try to tame Hamas. They will start shooting their rockets at us in the hope of opening a second front. I'm sure they feel that two fronts will lead to an outcome like 2006's on both fronts.
It is likely that they are badly mistaken in that. Israel will only take so much and at this time the Israeli population is firmly behind the Gaza foray and will not take kindly at all to any meddling from the north.
So the gimp sits here wondering when the first katyusha of this round of hostilities will hit.

Christmas and stuff

The gimp wonders what all this noise about a war on Christmas is really about. People run around like fools with their heads cut off objecting to any seasonal displays that have the tinyest bit of a religious conotation to them, and then are countered with objections to people using a more generic "Happy Holdays" greeting. That really makes me wonder. Two major holidays are celebrated at the same time of the year and we can't always know who prefers "Merry Christmas" and who Happy Chanukah", so, a heartfelt Happy Holiday covers both very nicely.
When I did the advertising for our family business back in Maine, I used both Christmas and Holidays pretty much interchangably.
Christmas wasn't my thing, but being one of a very small Jewish community in an overwhelmingly Christian town, I learned to enjoy the symbols of the season and even though we never felt any desire to do what some Jewish families did so their kids wouldn't feel left out and secularize Christmas/Chanukah by having Christmas style decorations but calling them something else, we Just lit our Chanukia (it's not a menorah-that is the official state symbol of the State of Israel and not the same thing at all). We did however join in the festivities around us and share with our friends and neighbors out of respect for their beliefs, which were quite different to ours.
What went wrong over there that basic respect for others beliefs has sunk to such a low level that things have gotten to the point that the obvious is lost? Displays of holiday symbols in now way violate the Constutution injuction about founding a State Religion.Every American is free to celebrate any way they please. Why attempt to restrict it? That seems to me to be one of the worst violations of The Constutution there can be.
So, Happy Holiday (from Holy Day) to all, Merry Christmas to my Christian friends and Happy Chanukah, to my Jewish ones and Happy Whatever to the rest. Just be happy and respectful of each other is all I ask.
