Ouch

The gimp wonders why things jump into her head with no warning, and refuse to leave until they are written out.
It struck me rather forcefully while waiting for a local Arab to get his car out of the only place I use to get inside the mall where my babk is that that the Arabs are going about things all wrong.
In 1948 when the State of Israel came in to being, the local Arabs were given full citizenship with the right to vote and be elected to any office in the country. The only difference between Arab and Jewish citizens was that Arabs were not required to be drafted into the army as they were regarded as possible security risks. Druze and Bedoin are drafted because they have a long history of declaring allegience to the government of where ever the live. Not setting up some sort of National Service for all citizens at the time might have been one of the biggest mistakes we made back then. It also kind of struck me that the local Arabs and those in the West Bank and Gaza have more in common with American blacks than immediately meets the eye.
Both groups are constantly being told by their 'leaders' that they are not equal to the those who belong to the majority of citizens, that they are oppressed and taken advantage of, and denied the chance to advance them selves.
Those who fled in 1948 were encouraged to leave by military types who promised that they would be able to return and take over everything from the defeated Jew. When that didn't happen, they were set up in refugee camps and used as bargaining cards by their very own brothers on the Arab countries where the camps were set up for just that purpose. Not a single one of the Arab states that told the Arabs to leave Israel made the slightests effort to absorb the people they made leave their homes. To this day there is still a 'refugee issue' where none should be. Had they stayed here, they would have had 100% of the rights of citizenship without one of the major burdens-Army Service. They all moan and groan about poverty and bad schools, but won't lift a finger to help themselves. It's even worse in West Bank and Gaza where either the PLO and Hamas are constantly preaching that it's all the Jew's fault. They are preaching this to a new generation that can barely remember how things were before the PLO and Hamas took over. They were basically autonomous and elected their own officials, worked in Israel with no problems at all. Israelis felt perfectly safe shopping, or whatever else they felt like doing there. Then. Arafat arrived with his merry band of terrorists, and everything went down the tubes. Municipal elected officials were killed for collaberating with the enemy. Every so often one of them will make the fatal mistake of publically saying that they miss the days before the Terrorists took over.
So, how is all that similar to the black situation in the U.S.? You figure it out. It's pretty simple.
