The Gimp wonders why no one ever brings up Israels universal health care scheme.
Oddly enough, it pretty much works, and eve Israeli citizen is required by law to be a member. There is a monthly deduction through the National Insurance plan (our Social Security) based on income. There are four providers that can be chosen from, and switching providers is allowed under certain conditions. There is also supplementary insurance that can be purchaced for additional coverage. It still amazes me that it actually works quite well. There are glitches from time to time. Some of the more expensive medicines, treatments and proceedures are not always included in the plan, but more are being added every year.
It's just a puzzlement that it's never mentioned when the subject comes up. It seems that only Canada, England and Cuba are ever used as examples.
