So They Say

The Gimp wonders why it is so hard for so many people to understand the simplest things especially when they are right in front their eyes and practically slapping them in the face.
This whole Gaza-West Bank, Hamas-PLO thing has been brewing for years, but whenever it was pointed out that things were headed straight for a very hot place in a hand basket, the world's collective response was "give them what they want" then, when they were given what they wanted, it just got worse. How much worse does it have to get before the Fearless Leaders of the so called Free World realize that they are next?
We are the only country in the world that is expected to give it's sworn enemies the means to destroy it. Anyone who thinks the Oslo accords were a vehicle to bring about peace is dead wrong. It is nothing less than the means to bring about the end of Israel, and after that a regional spring board of terror to subjugate the rest of the world.
The gimp also wonders why if Jews are so disliked the world over, it's not enough that we have our own little tiny country, that we must be put in a position to allow ourselves to be destroyed. I can't think of any other group that has had such vile accusations leveled against them, from world take over conspiracies, and right on down the list. Judaism is one of the most peace loving religions ever and not only doesn't overtly encourage conversion, actively discourages it. It is also the foundation of Christianity and Islam. I wonder if it's because we just stick to our own Torah and don't assimilate easily, making it look like we think we're better than others? Well, NEWS FLASH! We don't think we are better than any one else. All we want to is to live our lives quietly and practise our beliefs. We don't want to tell anyone else how to live. But we do want to live, which is becoming more difficult by the day in our little odd democracy that is surrounded by people who not only want to kill us, but say it day after day and try to do it every chance they get, be it with katyushas fired at the north, or qassams fired at the south.
My brain gets tired thinking about it, so here's what I'm going to do about it. I'm going to stay right here and keep right on doing what I'm doing and either get done in by a katyusha or, go when called.
I don't much care what the world thinks of me, and I do wish my government would do the same. Every time we listen to our so called friends and benefactors we get closer to the end. Israel should quite simply stand on her two feet and do what's best for Israel, not what some else thinks or says is best for Israel.
End of rant.

Messages

Well, well, well. I no sooner decided to post whether or not that annoying tool bar showed up or not, and there it is! May it continue to appear when I want to post.

The gimp has been wondering where the elected officials get the unmitigated gall to even think that the message the American People sent to Congress indicated that they were overwhelmingly in favor of the Democrat's agenda. A more obvious message is that they are angry with most of their intrepid lawmakers and were flexing their voting muscle to show both parties who the boss is. The furor over the illegal immigrant amnesty bill should have been a smack on the back of the head to all of them, but instead of listening to the people they are supposed to be working for, they are ignoring the very clear signals being sent to them. (can't get much clearer than millions of letters faxes and phone calls) Bush doesn't much care because he can't run again. The Democrats got majorities in both Houses simply because the Republicans were not listening, not because all of a sudden they decided that the Democrat agenda was attractive. On reflection it's obvious to me  that a message that is well worth paying attention to was sent. The people can, and will vote against those who willfully do the opposite of what they promised to do during the campaign. That's a pretty powerful message to get wrong.
I actually dare to hope that most of those who got the message wrong will be sent a new one along with a one way ticket back to their home states. 2008 will be a very interesting year.

The gimp has also been wondering who she would like to see the Republicans nominate to run for President. Giulianni almost looks good on paper, but there are a few problematic issues.
I like what I hear Fred Thompson saying and have absolutely no trouble with an actor being elected. The last actor elected turned out to be one the best Presidents ever, so that's not my issue with him. I just wonder if he will be able to withstand all the pressure that will be brought to bear on him on the critical issues he'll be faced with. Bush certainly disappointed in that area. I was actually naive enough to think that on the basis of a conversation we had years ago at a Republican event in Maine that he did indeed have the back bone required. Sadly I was wrong. McCain is just plain too old and the others leave me cold.
On one hand I hope that Clinton woman gets the nod from the Democrats because she is most likely to bring about her own defeat with some help from biographers who are not exactly complimentary to her. I'm quite enjoying the fuss over Bernstein's expose. He's usually on her side of things, or so one would assume from the Nixon era. I think she's in big trouble and not only because of  that. She's too transparent for even  most die hard Democrats. Having her run  could very well be the best thing for conservative candidates. Now, there's an opportunity to send a loud and clear message  to Congress. I can see many going home for good, while whinging about how stupid the electorate is. Right. They're the stupid ones for getting the interim message all wrong.

Grrrrrrrrrr

I am getting very tired of this site not showing the tool bar for font, color, etc. I try to bring up several times a day, but haven't been able to get since my last post which just might be my last post. What's so difficult about getting a tool bar for something so basic to work? Can't even copy and paste from Word. I'm going to bed now. I might try from the other computer, but there's no reason it should work on that one but not this one.

The Gimp Is wondering

The gimp has spent the wondering why ostensibly intelligent people spend so much time concentrating on the least important things, the minutia while the world is crumbling around them. I think it might have something to with having advanced ourselves to the point where our comfort is paramount and ideals and beliefs are just something to talk about in our comfy living rooms. It also seems that the good old religious values that once gave us the will to act on our convictions simply because it was the right thing to do has somehow evolved into a strange mutation of secular right and wrong. People are afraid to stand up for what they know is right these days.
I had some first hand experience with this back in 1992. I was teaching English in a high school that was owned and run by the national union. All employees were required to use the union bank and their health insurance. I refused to change my health insurer and they allowed it because my daughter had been having health problems. I got around the bank by having my daughter open an account in their bank. Towards the end of the school year and just two weeks before the national elections, I was fired on the grounds that I hadn't yet changed my health insurance. Amazingly that was grounds for firing a teacher. As the union is connected with the Labor Party, I made sure that the Likud Party knew about it, and agreed to make a campaign commercial for them on the condition that the only issue would be the union. My spot was aired the night before the last day of school. It caused quite an uproar. I can't begin to count the number of people who asked how much they paid me to do it or if I had been threatened by the union. I was paid nothing and the union couldn't threaten me because I was already fired so what else could they do?
About a year later Haim Ramon ran a campaign for election as union chairman based on every point I'd made in my spot. He won and immediately changed all those things.
In 1994 a different school in the same group wanted me to teach there, but the head office said no, not her. I promptly sent a letter to the newly elected union head, who interfered and I was hired the next day.
So, you see, if you are right, you can change things for the better. I was right, and I changed something that was rotten. And yes, I'm proud of it. The upside is that there are not a few national and local officials who break out in a sweat when my name is mentioned.
The gimp says: If you know something right, stand up and do whatever you need to do.

Wake Up America

It's disturbing to be so far away and watch America commit suicide by stupidity. It's also beyond frustrating to watch the U.S. self destruct by trying to figure out what they did that caused it. This self questioning really should stop right now. The only ones to blame are the terrorists themselves. They are not upset because of anything done to them or theirs in the last 150 years or so. They quite simply believe what they are told that their religion requires them to convert the whole entire world and/or to kill the infidels. It really is that simple and they keep telling you that in the simplest terms possible. You just are not listening. 150 years is nothing to them. They have endless patience and are enjoying all the self doubt and guilt that they are able to cause in you. Time is nothing to them, but, they have become adept at taking full advantage of the instant society we all live in. We want everything now. Instant dinners, prompt service, Quickly won wars, even live news isn't enough, we want to know what will happen next, while they wait, plan, and plot. It isn't enough that most Americans are good, peace loving people. No one wants or like wars. Sometimes they just have to be fought, and the wars that have to be fought must be won, no matter how long it takes. It's more than just survival. Survival means nothing without the personal freedoms America stands for.
There are days when I despair, but, there are more days when I hope. Today I am hoping that maybe, just maybe, the JFK airport plot will serve as a wake up call to enough of the bleeding heart liberals who think that America did something to bring it upon themselves. That attitude is exactly what will bring an end to us all.
Come on, a baggage handler gets fired and decides that it might be nice to blow up an airport and half of New York City? That's a legitimate reason if ever there was one. not.

Foreword/warning

I've been thinking about starting a blog over here at Town Hall for a while now, I have two blogs at Blog spot.
One is a journal for writing about mundane day to day stuff. The other is a place to take out my frustration with the crazed goings on here in Israel. This blog has been started because I don't want to confuse myself at what I call my political blog. Keeping Israel and the States separate will help me keep my personalities straight. It's not always easy to be an American in Israel and vice versa.
I welcome anyone who wants to read and comment here. I do not promise to reply to all comments. I might be a gimp, but I am a very busy gimp. I'm out of the house for long periods of time every day and I'm not a slave to my  computers or my blogs.
I  am very careful choosing my words and try to be concise, precise, and say exactly what I mean.
A little personal background, just in case anyone is interested. I grew up in Maine in a very old Jewish family that arrived on that side of the ocean from Spain pretty much with Columbus, because the Jews were kicked out of Spain. There was northward movement as the Spaniards followed in our footprints. Some of my ancestors were on hand to meet the Mayflower, and some were at the Boston Tea Party. One was a major financial sponsor of the Revolution.
Much as I love America, I moved to Israel simply because the very minute I got off the plane, at the age of 18 I knew that I was home and would never be able to live any place else.
Back in my youth while still in the States, I was a bit of a liberal radical, but quickly figured things out for myself and became a conservative. These days I'm sitting pretty far out on the right wing of things in both countries.
That's enough yammering for now.
I'll get on with blog either later today or tomorrow.
